How to Create a WhatsApp Account

Difficulty : Easy

Tutos pour Whatsapp

A complete User Guide for WhatsApp

Creating a WhatsApp account is the first essential step when using the app for the first time. This quick process gives you access to all of WhatsApp’s features, including messaging, voice and video calls, and file sharing.

In this guide, we’ll walk you step by step through creating your WhatsApp account on your phone or tablet.

Table of Contents

  1. Download and Install WhatsApp
  2. Enter your Phone Number
  3. Verify your Number via SMS
  4. Set Up your Profile

1. Download and Install WhatsApp

Before creating an account, you need to install WhatsApp on your smartphone. The app is free and available on major app stores. Once installed, simply open the app to begin the account creation process. You can download WhatsApp from the Google Play Store (for Android devices) or the App Store (for Apple devices).

Steps:

  • Download WhatsApp from Google Play Store or App Store
  • Open the app

Tip: If you’re not sure where to find the Play Store, check out smartphone tutorials online.

Things to Know About Downloading Apps from the Play Store

When searching for the app on the Play Store or App Store, you may notice that several apps are offered. WhatsApp is a free app, and the Play Store should not ask you to pay anything. If a window prompts you to add a payment method, close it. The download of WhatsApp will start normally. If a window asks you to pay a few euros, it means you are trying to install a competing app. Be especially careful with featured apps (sponsored content = advertisement).

How to Find the Play Store on My Phone ?

Here are the logos for the Play Store and the App Store. To view the list of apps on your phone, swipe up from the bottom of the screen, then swipe from right to left to scroll through the pages. Do not confuse the App Store (app store) with the Apple Store (selling Apple products) 🙂

2. Enter your Phone Number

When you open WhatsApp for the first time, the app will ask for your phone number. This is an essential step because your account will be linked directly to this number. Make sure it is entered correctly before proceeding. Unlike many websites or apps that use email addresses as identifiers, WhatsApp uses your phone number, making it easy to connect with all the contacts saved in your phone.

Steps:

  • Select your country
  • Enter your phone number
  • Confirm

Note: You cannot contact someone on WhatsApp using an email address; the app works only with phone numbers.

Good to know

With WhatsApp, unlike many websites or apps, your identifier is your phone number, not your email address. This makes it easier to find and connect with your phone contacts. You can communicate on WhatsApp with anyone saved in your phone’s contact list.

On WhatsApp, can you contact someone using an email instead of a mobile number?

No, you cannot contact someone using their email address. WhatsApp works exclusively with phone numbers.

3. Verify your Phone Number via SMS

After entering your phone number, WhatsApp automatically sends a verification code via SMS. This code confirms that you are the owner of the number provided. A typing mistake can happen quickly! Once you receive it, simply enter the code in the app to move on to the next step.

Steps:

  • Wait to receive the verification code
  • Enter the code in the app

4. Set Up your Profile

Once your number is verified, you can personalize your account. This step allows your contacts to recognize you. You can enter your name and optionally add a profile picture.

Steps:

  • Enter your name
  • Add a profile picture (optional)

Conclusion

Creating a WhatsApp account is a quick and easy process. In just a few minutes, your account is ready to use. You can start chatting with your contacts and explore all the app’s features.
