Overview of Pinned Apps
One of the roles of the Windows taskbar is to display shortcuts to the programs and apps you use the most: Edge, Chrome, File Explorer, Mail, Skype… The advantage of pinning your favorite programs to the taskbar instead of the desktop is that the taskbar is always visible; your shortcuts are therefore accessible at all times. Shall we go through it together?

Resume
The easiest way to pin a program to the Windows taskbar is to drag the program’s icon onto the taskbar. To remove it, right-click and select Unpin from taskbar.
Important to know
On some versions of Windows 11, such as the early releases from 2024 and 2025, it is not possible to use drag-and-drop. You will need to follow the method described in this tutorial. For Windows 10 and the more recent versions of Windows 11 (2025, 2026, and later), simply drag your programs or other shortcuts onto the taskbar.
1. Add a shortcut to the taskbar
You can add and remove shortcuts to your favorite programs to customize your taskbar however you like. There’s no need to clutter it with unnecessary icons, but at the same time, it would be a shame not to have quick access to the programs you use often.
To pin an app to the taskbar, first search for it using the search box, then drag it onto the taskbar. A new shortcut will be created. If this method doesn’t work (depending on your version of Windows), locate your program, right-click it, and select Pin to taskbar. You can also drag some desktop items onto the taskbar.
Let’s see this with images. To practice, type “Calculator” in the search box. Then right-click the icon and click Pin to taskbar :
